Why Penis Pumps Don't WorkWhen the term "male enhancement" comes up, one of two things generally come to mind- cheesy pill commercials on television, and penis pumps. Pumps have been around for decades now, and are generally viewed as a joke to many men. They are used as props in movies, as punchlines, understood to be a scam. Many desperate men have bought and used them, but to what effect?
How pumps work to enlarge the penis.
Pumps are pretty simple in construction. They consist of a tube with a rubber seal, a pump, and some tubing. The penis is inserted into the end of the tube, and the pump draws air out from the tube, creating a vacuum. As a result of the vacuum, the blood vessels in the penis expand and draw in extra blood. A band or ring is placed at the base of the penis, trapping the blood inside the penis until the user removes it.
Originally, these devices were designed to be used by men with diabetes, or other disorders effecting blood flow. Due to poor circulation, many man found it hard to get and maintian a solid erection. Drawing and trapping blood into the penis was an easy fix for men who wanted to be intimate with their partners.
The downside?
Gains were seldom permanent, and having to find and use a pump causes in interruption to the lovemaking process. Also, some users complained that the ring would sometimes hurt the base of the penis, and that the strong vacuum could bruise or hurt the penis. In addition, blood vessels ran the risk of becoming injured or inflamed due to prolonged or frequent use.
